Walking 450 kilometers for a Free Assange and a Free Catalonia | By Anonymous | August 17, 2019 - 06:16 | Posted in Ops | 3 Comments

Jorge isn’t your regular activist. He’s been on a hunger strike 15 times to raise awareness for many causes.

But this time things are different. He is not just on a hunger strike, he is also walking over 450 kilometers (400 miles), from the city of Strasbourg to Brussels. An impossible job for most, an incredibly difficult job for anyone. But at this point, he is already close to reaching his end destination. It took him over 45 days, but it has been worth it.

On his way he meets many people and receives a lot of (psychological) support. Most people he meets are supportive of the things he fights for and they usually love it when he makes a picture with them. They offer him drinks, a place to rest, and of course the most important thing, a good talk. Because the only thing Jorge really needs is motivation. And when he is motivated he is able to accomplish great things.

The hero Jorge is doing all of this to get attention for the fight for a Free Catalonia, the incarcerated journalist Julian Assange, free press and free speech.

So why now? It kind of happened all at once. Earlier this year Assange was arrested, removed from the Ecuadorian embassy in London like a criminal. Around the same time Catalan representatives, chosen in the EU elections, were denied access to the European Parliament. Not only did the people in power strike against the freedom of the press, they also denied the democratic voting rights of over 2 million people in the region of Catalonia.

For the activist world both of these events came as a shock, and Jorge decided to fight back.

Knowing that when the regular media is silent about these events, the only way to do something is to get attention to the subjects by yourself. From the normal people, those who matter, not the big shots at the top. So he decided to do what no person had done before, to go on a hunger strike and walk between the 2 main EU buildings, 450 kilometers, and to not eat until he would have reached his end destination.

All of this to give one single message to those in power:

We are Anonymous.

We are Legion.

We do not forgive.

We do not forget.

And now, the EU parliament in Brussels can expect Jorge. And Jorge doesn’t arrive alone. Because he is supported by more people than they would be willing to piss off.

Do you want to stay up to date with him? Jorge is on air every Sunday around 21:00 GMT +1 with Anonymous Bites Back to tell you about his progress. The Anonymous collective has been supporting him all the way and it’s becoming kind of an online video diary now. You can find every episode at the Periscope account here.
